This is the original Japanese theatrical trailer of the 1988 anime movie Akira based on the manga of the same name by Katsuhiro Otomo. I ripped this from the Akira Special Edition DVD on the Extras Disc. I love this movie. The first time I saw it as a kid, it scared the hell out of me. I highly recommend this film to all movie buffs - please watch in original Japanese dub with English subtitles - SAY NO TO ENGLISH DUBS! Enjoy.

I can't imagine the Hollywood remake being any good, but I don't really care that much. The original version isn't going anywhere.
I think that my favorite thing by Otomo is the "Construction Cancellation Order" segment from Neo-Tokyo. Anyone who's a fan of Akira should see that.

You're an idiot. The anime Akira still stands the test of time. It also proves you don't have to have another children's animated film all the time. Read the original Akira manga, to me it's the best manga ever made.

AKIRA was for me the best manga, ive collected load over the years but this always seemed far more imaginative and ahead of its time. Katsuhiro Otomo knew how to weave an epic story and ill always appreciate this work of art. I hear they will be making a live action film in Hollywood... i just know they will fuck it all up. Its a shame, as some people will never realise the greatness of the original work.

This movie is simply a master piece of anime. I saw this movie for the first time in junior high back in 1991. I saw it in Japanese without subtitles. But even without the subtitles, Akira is the kind of movie that just grabs you and doesnt let you go. Its like being hypnotize.

It WAS long but you get this great level of relief when you get to the end. I prefer the ending of the manga cos it made you feel complete compared to the way the movie ended. I also think the manga had more heart and was less violent than the movie.

I hope it has depth. Akira had depth. If whoever directs it is intelligent and obsessive enough to do the story justice then i'll see it. If it's as superficial as that kanye west video then i'll be really disappointed. It'll be all sparkle and no substance: (sarcastically) "look how cool this is"

this movie scared the shit outta me, first time i seen in when i was like 10 years old, it gave me nightmares, but now im cool with it, and it amazing how good its drawn out and also the storyline! if you like this movie, watch Ninja Scroll, its also a great japanamation movie!
