I saw this movie in my video editing class. Creeped me out at times due to the eerieness of it. A really great classic.
Note: the reason why the shadows were painted was due to the fact that the makers only had one light to use and couldn't afford to get another. That's why the shadows are painted on.

Man, this was WAY before TV was even invented. This was film when it was a new technology. And if you ask me, it was more adventurous and innovative back then when they were making up the rules as the went along. Today's horror films will not be remembered decades from now. It's sad that with all the advanced tools available to directors now, they rarely do anything that stands out.
